In the datasoure we have to provide the name of the workbook and the worksheet but it is hard coded.
I mean if in future if the name of test data sheet changes then I have to make the changes in all the subtests. Is it possible to paramertise the name of the workbook. For instance if we give the name of the test data workbook in run config and the its ref. can be made in subtest under datasource column. I have the below code in my subtest: Data source : FEAF_Phase1_TestData: MainDriver id %TESTID% My req. is to parameterise "FEAF_Phase1_TestData" instead of hadcoded it in all subtests.
I like Rahul's idea as we have the same issue.
We have a number of system environments to test against i.e UAT / System Test and these have different data files for the User data sets etc. All of tests are exactly the same but verify against different data. It's a case of having to rename the files or the sheets or even the columns for the different systems and copy these around to get the correct data set loaded. It would be nice if the datasource reference could be in the config file and then whatever config we choose to build / run with would have the correct data set associated with it. How many others have this issue? Thanks Russ
Hi Russ,
You can achieve what you require by using the Database functionality in the AxeHarness api to build dynamic datasource files. You can create connections strings that access local Excel spreadsheets in your Axe project. Then you can put the names of the data files in the RunConfig. I am hoping to write a knowledge-base article or blog post on this in the near future. In the meantime I have a sample project using QTP that I could email you. We also plan to build dynamic datasources into the core functionality in a future release. Sam |
